A video of the Alès Fair bull run event that went viral yesterday has incited debates across social media. “There’s no need to post such a video. Our traditions are already enough at risk,” a man commented on the Objectif Gard’s Facebook page. Quick to counter, a regular reader said : “Good if they are at risk”. This video that was posted on our Facebook page yesterday afternoon has given rise to speculations about our local customs. A shocking scene of a young man being hit twice by a bull during the bull run on Old Bridge in Alès can be seen in the footage.
The young victim, despite the terrifying experience, is reported to be more scared than harmed (as per the latest updates). Despite its intensity, this video stands as a testament to Objectif Gard’s commitment towards neutral and rigorous journalism every day. The clip was shared without any bias, just as we cover the bullfights in Arles, Alès, and Nîmes. We do not intend to end local traditions as some have suggested. And even if we did, would we really have the power ?
We firmly deny any bias when our journalists report from the rings every year, despite facing stark criticism. We are unable to please everyone, hence we simply continue with what we’ve been doing for about fifteen years : which is, delivering the news.
